Known colloquially as ‘Mini Monstera’, this plant does bear quite a bit of resemblance to the fenestrated Monstera of South America, though R. tetrasperma itself is native to Asia. Thick, succulent stems and a quick growth rate allows for this species to easily take advantage of the best ecological conditions in its ecosystem, however it is no less rampant in a houseplant collection. Leaf after leaf emerges with great quickness, and propagations root quite quickly too; massive, thick roots meant to access water deeper underground, it’s clear that this species has quite a grip on its ecosystem. For growth as a houseplant, a stake or support is strongly encouraged, along with a soil amended with perlite for aeration to prevent root rot, which is one of the few issues Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is prone to suffering from.
