Though this species seems rather plain when it’s seen amongst others that look similar in a juvenile state, such as Philodendron micans, this remarkable plant undergoes a mind-blowing transformation once it’s allowed to grow on a support. Small, heart-shaped leaves yield to leaves twice to triple in size, with large, deeply-cut lobes; a look that is totally unique amongst Philodendrons. In order for a collector to get this species to reach this state; the cuttings must be affixed to a support, most favorably a moss pole, something that will get the plant to think it’s clambering up an Ecuadorian tree trunk and to get it in the position to produce its remarkable, unmistakable mature foliage.
