Few Hoya are better suited to the lifestyle of the average collector than wayetii; it’s a simple fact. Sprawling vines grow with incredible speed and vigor, sometimes even producing aerial roots off nodes as nothing more than a holdfast. Flowers come in umbels of between a dozen and twenty, bursting to reveal fluffy, fused petals in a delightful little star, and coronas which ooze clear nectar; emitting a tantalizing, floral smell, almost akin to roses. Curled leaves develop quickly in pairs, with short distances between nodes to give a very lush, bushy appearance. Specimens can develop from a cutting or two into a full, overflowing hanging basket within a year, so long as they are kept happy. The key to pleasing Hoya wayetii is quite simple; as they thrive on what most Hoya would consider mediocrity. Regular houseplant mix, with added perlite for aeration, and medium-shade rather than high light. Hoya wayetii is just one of the incredibly diverse myriad of Hoyas native to the Philippines, and it deserves a place in the collection of anyone capable of understanding its beauty.
