Product Details
Hailing from Sarawak island, Indonesia, this large-leaved wax flower is an exemplary species to truly fill out a collection. Huge, glossy leaves that could at times rival ping-pong paddles grow on stubby petioles from a pencil-thick, woody stem, which terminates in an especially tactile vine. This species is a true epiphyte; and thus searches incessantly for something to climb; so this species is excellent when trellised. Flowers-pearly white-are in a very great quantity; usually fifty or more, bunched tightly together at the tip of a peduncle that will re-bloom for years to come. Due to its epiphytic nature, Hoya latifolia should be potted in a mix based in tree bark chunks, with a drainage aid like pumice or perlite to give the soil some air. Fertilizing should be frequent, as this species requires a great deal of nutrients to support such a gargantuan frame, and cuttings are incredibly hardy. When a piece of latifolia is cut; the propagation’s existing leaves will support the plant easily until roots grow, and this species grows rampant, wild roots that quickly fill a pot. Latifolia is quite a trooper; and is more than suited to high light, even direct sunlight, which can cause it to sun-stress a pleasant peachy tinge. As a result of latifolia’s truly goliath leaves, it is regularly called the ‘dinner-plate’ Hoya.
