Of course, the best part of any Hoya carnosa is the incredible flower, and the minimally obtrusive foliage of ‘compacta’ gives nothing but the best view of large, pastel-pink floral clusters that waft an indescribable, heavenly perfume. Unlike most variegated plants, variegated ‘compacta’ are not really susceptible to sunburn, as Hoya leaves are thick and almost succulent, with a glossy surface that’s lent the whole genus the common name ‘wax plants’. Propagation is quite simple, so long as the cut end of the stem is pressed firmly into soil of most any variety, and growth is surprisingly fast for the unconventional appearance of ‘compacta’, too. Expect a boisterous, showy vine that easily fills out a hanging basket, and the opportunity to thrive as a centerpiece in any collection.
