Different plants are, of course, tailored to different conditions, and sometimes those are more specialized than others. With the case of Freycinetia cf. elegantula, specificity is key. Sadly, this fuzzy, 4-sided joy of a vine is not a very tolerant plant; but rather a variety perfectly suited for terrarium living. A solitary, diminutive stem, native to the Philippines, will ramble up most structures provided to it. One of this plant’s greatest weaknesses is actually also a strength; that being its sensitivity to nutrients. Though Freycinetia shouldn’t be fertilized, this also means they don’t require the supplementary fertilization that most terrarium plants tend to need. Freycinetia should not be counted out just because they can be somewhat difficult at times; as they are plants that provide an immaculate bit of detail to most terrarium environments. Humidity should be kept above 85%, and soil should be kept to sphagnum moss.
