Terrariums are environments that require a level of great discerning and care to properly achieve; and terrarium plants amass thousands of unique species which can each be used to create incredible tapestries as unique as snowflakes. For someone getting into terrariums, it can seem impossible to choose a groundcover, but there really is no choice easier than Ficus pumila. This tiny fig produces leaves of the perfect size and shape to carpet any space; and they can even begin to clamber up a wall to create larger foliage. Varieties in leaf shape and color exist, many of them, however there is no real point in trying to out-do the simple beauty of the green, spade-shaped leaves of original Ficus pumila. Added humidity isn’t required for growth; though they’re well suited to terrariums, this species is more than able to be cultivated in a windowsill, hanging basket or bowl garden. Propagation is incredibly easy, and so is maintenance; with minimal trimming required even in setups that span years in age.
