Product Details
Hailing from lowland rainforests in Brazil and some other areas of South America, Begonia
neocomensium is a very unique example of specialization to an environment. This large, meaty species finds its home in patches of filtered sunlight on the forest floor, using its large, wide, radiated leaves to soak up solar energy and produce big, robust specimens. As a houseplant, this rhizomatous species finds itself firmly in the distinction of Begonias suited for house growing rather than in a terrarium; due to its large mature size, rampant growth rate, and preference for higher light. This species’ thick leaves are almost leather-like, a trait that gives them the ability to store water for longer than most other Begonias. Though, of course, one should not purposely deprive their plants of water, of all the plants to miss a watering; Begonia
neocomensium is one that would be little worse for wear.
