Begonia bipinnatifida
Begonia bipinnatifida is a truly complex species. Though it is a Begonia, undoubtedly, it manages to subvert and wholly redirect the expectations of someone looking for a Begonia. Leaves bifurcate in a dizzying fractal of jagged, ruddy-red blades, permeating outwards in a manner much more suited to the likes of a fern. This Begonia is not just unique looking; however. Begonia bipinnatifida is one of the few species of Begonia for which high humidity is a requirement. The intricate, lacy leaves form in a very cramped, tiny sheath when the plant is first producing them, and without ample air humidity, these immature leaves will crimp and tear. However, when this beet-red beauty is given the opportunity to truly shine in the likes of a large terrarium, or even as a lone plant under a domed glass cloche, bipinnatifida becomes a plant like no other. The sheer size that these massive leaves can become when properly grown along with their vivid color allows the species to truly shine in its own unique way, and it should absolutely not be discounted solely on the regard of its humidity requirements.
