Begonia ‘Kismet’ paints the picture of what must be the end goal of any Begonia breeder. Contained in the package of a small to medium cane-type Begonia is the perfect blend of silver dappling, vibrant pinks and purples, and a compacted leaf size that allows for plants that grow to a manageable size, then terminate their thick, robust stems in a flurry of pinkish, pale blossoms, a fireworks show that’s fit for New Year’s Eve. One notable feature of ‘Kismet’ is the positioning of the leaves. When it’s compared to similar cane-type hybrids, there is a common trait regarding the leaves facing downwards; or at least held perpendicular to the stems-however-on ‘Kismet’, leaves are held facing upwards, displaying the full extent of beautiful silver and deep green. When backlit, leaves are a beautiful maroon, which makes for a stained glass effect when looking at one on an illuminated windowsill, which happens to be a great environment to cultivate this perfected beauty.
