Alocasia longiloba 'Dragon's Tooth'
Alocasia longiloba is a species that boasts an incredible spectrum of diversity. With such variable features, it is a wonder that such plants can be joined together under a single species name; and this variety; ‘Dragon’s Tooth’, is a spectacular addition. Promising the ferocity of a dragon, the electric purple and thick, piercing veins that this plant produces are truly one of a kind. Due to the thick, water-retentive petioles, veins, and rhizome that Alocasia longiloba is known for, they are more than capable of being grown as a low-maintenance houseplant. In the wilds of Borneo, a root structure designed for sapping water deep below the forest floor is an advantage that allows this diminutive genus to thrive in an otherwise unfulfilled ecological niche, but in the jungle of a forgetful waterer, those same roots can prove the line between a robust-growing Alocasia, and wrinkled, dead leaves. ‘Dragon’s Tooth’ is the perfect plant for intermediate light, gritty soil, and lots of love.
