The Amazonica is a hybrid plant from Alocasia Sanderiana and Alocasia Longiloba ‘Watsoniana’. The hybridization credit goes to Salvadore Mauro (circa 1950s, Amazon Nurseries, Miami FL). Even though this Alocasia carries AMAZON in its name it did not originate from the Amazon jungle or region, as Alocasia is strictly an Asian genus. This Alocasia has beautiful dark green leaves with giant white/silver veins. This plant will require bright indirect light, water when the top inch of soil dries and allow excess water to drain away as they are prone to root rot. Alocasias need high humidity, ideally 60% or higher, and use a well-draining soil mixture that can retain some moisture.
