The modern houseplant community has been the basis for the production of a number of plants that could otherwise never exist in nature, whether it be due to clashing conditions, or-in this case-clashing ranges. Alocasia azlanii and Alocasia baginda are two species that usually never occur within a square mile of one another; and without human intervention, by the work of the incredible Lindsay Sisti (Or, as she’s well known on Instagram, Alltheplantbabies), this majestic beast of a plant would never exist. Featuring a shade of unmistakable emerald green, combined with the rippling, illustrious red glint present on azlanii, Alocasia ‘Green Unicorn’ is truly the best of both worlds. Inherited from baginda are thick, impenetrable leaves that lend the hybrid to indoor, ambient humidity conditions, and the delicate, lacy venation of azlanii which create the image of true luxury suited for the every-day planter.
