Armadillidium tirolense is a species of isopod native to Italy. This particular culture was collected near Lake Garda, in Northern Italy. Tirolense reach decent sizes of about 15mm in adulthood, and boast a robust width. They also breed at a pretty good rate, and do not appear to be seasonal breeders.
Tirolense have beautiful coloring, with splashes of white and yellow on their black backs mimicking the filtering of leaves through tree tops on the forest floor.
These isopods enjoy having about half of their enclosure moist, with lots of decaying wood, leaves, and calcium available. They also enjoy frequent vegetable treats.
